Note: Alaska charges a flat $25 to change the registered agent. The standalone Statement of Change form (08-492 for LLCs) must be filed by mail or in person - online filing is not available for this specific form. The form must be signed by a Member or Manager on record (or attorney-in-fact). The signing official must match an official already on record with the state, and the entity's biennial report must be current or the filing will be rejected. Mail to Department of Commerce, Division of Corporations, PO Box 110806, Juneau AK 99811. You can also update the registered agent for free during your biennial report filing.

How to change your registered agent in Alaska

  1. Choose your new registered agent first. Do not file the change form until you have a new agent lined up. The new agent has to consent to the appointment, and most states will not process the change without that consent in hand. If you let coverage lapse, the Alaska SOS can administratively dissolve your LLC.
  2. Get the Statement of Change for Registered Agent (Form 08-492 for LLC). Download the form ↗ Wyoming and several other states require paper filing. Print the form, fill it in, and have the new registered agent sign the consent section. Both the change form and any required consent form must be submitted to the Alaska Secretary of State.
  3. Pay the $25 filing fee. Mail filings accept check or money order made out to the Alaska Secretary of State. Include payment with the form.
  4. Notify your old agent. Once the change is processed, your old agent's responsibility ends. If you are paying them an annual fee, cancel that subscription so it does not auto-renew. Most services prorate or refund the unused portion.
  5. Verify the change in state records. Search your LLC name on the Alaska SOS business search and confirm the new registered agent is listed. Processing typically takes 10-15 business days standard; expedite available for $50 extra (1 week), so check back after that window.

Important to know about Alaska

  • No online filing option for the standalone Statement of Change. The Alaska SOS does have an online portal but it does not handle this specific filing.
  • Filing is rejected if your biennial report is not current. Catch up on the biennial report first ($100 domestic / $200 foreign).
  • Standard processing is genuinely slow at 10-15 business days. The $50 expedite cuts it down to about a week.
  • The official signing must already be on record with the state. If your member or manager has changed but is not yet recorded, the filing will bounce.
