Note: Utah charges $17 for the change form whether filed online or by paper (per the FY2026 fee schedule effective July 1, 2025). The Utah Division of Corporations strongly encourages online filing through the Update a Business portal, which requires a UtahID account. If you change the agent at the same time as filing your $18 annual report, the change is included free with the renewal - this is the cheapest path if your renewal is coming up. Mail filings go to PO Box 146705, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-6705.

How to change your registered agent in Utah

  1. Choose your new registered agent first. Do not file the change form until you have a new agent lined up. The new agent has to consent to the appointment, and most states will not process the change without that consent in hand. If you let coverage lapse, the Utah SOS can administratively dissolve your LLC.
  2. Get the Limited Liability Company Registration Information Change Form. Download the form ↗ You can file this online through the Utah Secretary of State portal. The form requires your LLC name, the new agent name and address, and a signature. The new agent must consent to the appointment.
  3. Pay the $17 filing fee. Pay by credit card during the online filing. A small processing surcharge usually applies. Mail filings accept check or money order made out to the Utah Secretary of State.
  4. Notify your old agent. Once the change is processed, your old agent's responsibility ends. If you are paying them an annual fee, cancel that subscription so it does not auto-renew. Most services prorate or refund the unused portion.
  5. Verify the change in state records. Search your LLC name on the Utah SOS business search and confirm the new registered agent is listed. Processing typically takes 48 hours maximum for online filings; 5-7 business days for mail, fax, or in-person; expedited processing available for an additional $75, so check back after that window.

Important to know about Utah

  • If your annual report renewal is coming up, change the agent on the renewal form to avoid the separate $17 change fee. The $18 renewal includes the change at no extra cost.
  • Online filing requires a UtahID account and the entity number. Set both up before starting the filing.
  • Older sources cite $13 or $15 for the change fee. The current FY2026 fee (effective July 1, 2025) is $17.
